This Sukkari has character: less creamy, more bite
"Sukkari" means "sugar" in Arabic—and that's exactly what this date is known for. Our dried Sukkari dates are the slightly firmer variety of the popular Sukkari. They contain less residual moisture than our regular, soft variety and are therefore firmer to the bite. That’s not a drawback: anyone who likes dates with a bit of texture will love this variety.
While the soft Sukkari impresses with its creamy texture, the dry Sukkari stands out for its pleasant crunch where the fruit was attached to the cluster. That’s where the natural drying process begins: as moisture is lost, the fructose crystallizes—and that’s exactly what creates this special, slightly crunchy mouthfeel. Many find this combination of half-soft, half-firm particularly intriguing.
Taste & Enjoyment: As caramel-like as ever
Even though these Sukkari dates are drier, one thing remains the same: the taste. The flavors are wonderfully caramel-like, slightly nutty, and intensely sweet —exactly as you’d expect from Sukkari dates. In Arab coffee culture, these dates are traditionally served with coffee or tea as a substitute for sugar. As you sip, the fructose crystals slowly dissolve, imparting a delicate, natural sweetness to the beverage.
Thanks to their firmer texture, Sukkari dried dates are also perfect for healthy snacking, for chopping up and adding to oatmeal or salads, or as an accompaniment to espresso and strong black tea.
Advantage of Dryness: Long Shelf Life & Easy Storage
A major advantage of this variety is its very long shelf life. Because of its low moisture content, the risk of mold growth is extremely low—even when stored at room temperature. So you can easily store these dates in a cool, dry place if space in the refrigerator is limited.
Nevertheless, we recommend storing them in the refrigerator, as this helps preserve their full flavor for much longer. The fruit benefits from this in terms of taste—even if it’s already a bit drier.
By the way: You can rehydrate dried dates
Dates are hygroscopic—which means they can absorb moisture from their surroundings. If you want to enjoy your dry Sukkari dates soft again, it’s very simple: Place them in a colander over a pot of boiling water and steam them for a few minutes. The dates will absorb the moisture and become softer again without losing any of their flavor.
Origin & Special Offer
Our Sukkari dates come from the famous Al Qasim oasis, the center of Sukkari cultivation. Since we have now received the new harvest, we are offering the remaining stock of these drier Sukkari dates at a particularly low price.
A great opportunity for anyone who wants to experience Sukkari in a different way: less creamy, more texture—and full of flavor.
